Some of you will remember these stories from when you were young. Mrs Pepperpot has to contend with her unreconstructed husband, (somewhat demanding on the meals-on-the-table front!) and unrelenting housework. A tendency to shrink (to condiment proportions!), with no prior warning, adds further challenge. Mrs Pepperpot’s stoicism in adversity, her cunning and wile, and an ability to communicate with the animal kingdom allows her keep on top of her domestic duties and have a little fun in the process.
Reading Mrs Pepperpot again as an adult still makes me smile. These stories show us that you’re never too old for adventures. Sharing these stories with our reading groups has reassured me that children still warmly respond to gentle humour and good literature.
Long live little old ladies! A book to make you smile.
Suitable for independent reading - 9 years or sharing – from 8 years.

Amazon pays NO UK tax on £3.3bn sales - (Guardian 5/4/12). But it takes government money for its new distribution centre and its lorries use the roads. Its employees will use hospitals, schools and public transport. It's time to boycott these giants who wilfully avoid taxes.
