Remembered Remedies by Anne Barker

Birlinn p/b, ***

Subtitled 'Traditional Plant Lore', this niche little book can be a tad worthy in places, but in these days of foraging when we have a heightened interest in the use of the plants around us, it will reward the careful reader. Barker focuses on over 100 plants that were routinely used as remedies for everyday complaints, explaining clearly how and why they were used. The inclusion of photos and the book’s compact size mean it is very useful for practical exploration, but equally interesting are the tales of folk remedies, particularly those from the islands.
