Holes by Louis Sachar
I read the book Holes with a reading group and it was fantastic. I thought it was very clever how there were so many connections with the past and present. My favourite character definitely had to be Zero because he was very kind and although everyone thought he was useless he proved them wrong. I think Stanley was also a very good character because he was always sticking-up for his friend, Zero and helping him. I think the book was rounded off very well and it all came together at the end.
My favourite part of the book is when the Yellow Spotted lizards climb all over Stanley and Zero but don’t hurt them. It is really hard to tell you lots about this book because the book is all about clues. Holes is brilliant.

The Nine Lives of Montezuma – A letter to the author
Dear Michael Morpurgo
I really enjoyed your book. I thought it was quite funny but sometimes sad. On the front cover why does Montezuma have half of his ears missing? There are lots of hard words, but I like that because we will get better at looking up the dictionary. But the best thing about the book is how you look at the cats feelings really well.

Wayside School is Falling Down by Louis Sachar
We highly recommend this hilarious, modern and unusual book. If you are a child who likes to get into mischief yourself, you are certain to end up in fits of laughter.
Think pigtails are weird? Then you’re right! But they can save someone’s life. Does your teacher drop computers out the window? Well, this one does. Mrs Jewls turns out to be the craziest, maddest and strangest teacher in the world.
Make sure you read this book.
