Finding Our Way - A History of Scottish Maps and Mapping

Saturday 7th July 2018 - Sunday 2nd September 2018

Humankind has always created maps, from the earliest cave paintings to modern GPS technology people want to know where they are. The Watermill is pleased to present this collection of old maps and prints dating from a 1630s Hondius map of Shetland and Orkney to geological maps of the early 20th century. Classic mapmakers and cartographers represented include, Blaeu, Moll, Slezer, Hondius and Mercator. The maps presented in this collection are mainly original, including an original map of Braid Allaban (Breadalbane) by the great Dutch publisher Willem Blaeu. As part of the exhibition we have a fantastic half-price offer on these difficult to find atlases, beautifully reprinted by Birlinn: The Military Survey of Scotland 1747 -1755 by William Roy Bartholomew Atlas of 1912 and John Thomson's Atlas of 1832
