A bold move from London to Perthshire saw a shift from the familiar to the unfamiliar for Joanne in 2015.
The paintings in this series show Joanne’s commute to and from work as she began to carve out a new life in a rural area. She found her artistic practice shifting away from portraiture to painting the dark, tree-lined roads she travelled every day.
These roads became a repetitive feature in her work at the time and emerged as a metaphor for the emotional and psychological journey she embarked upon.
This exhibition of paintings represents a brief, yet intense and poignant love affair with the landscape within 20 miles of Aberfeldy.
